Yeshe’s album Roots and Wings was born thanks to a reunion of old friends. Yeshe had lost touch with world renowned South African reggae artist Tefo Hlaele for almost fifteen years and by chance, they found each other again thanks to a fortuitous Google search. Hlaele was a big musical influence on Yeshe and one of his early mentors when touring around Europe in the early 1980s. The pair were so happy to have reconnected that they decided to record some tracks together, one of which was an award winner at the 2009 Billboard World Song contest. After returning to his home in the hills of Byron Bay, Australia, Yeshe continued the award winning work started with Hlaele and took it to a new level. Co-produced by GRAMMY nominated producer Kamal Engels, Roots and Wings draws upon a rich reservoir of Yeshe’s past and present musical cohorts, including Harry Manx (Canada’s most awarded blues artist and long time collaborator with Yeshe), Ganga Giri (Australia’s international Didjeridoo/dance export) and Avishai Barnatan (founding member of the Israeli band Sheva).
